Healthy Athletes Village to bring health inclusion to Games athletes
Alongside the sporting events at the Ireland Games, the Healthy Athletes Village at the National Indoor Arena will provide free health screenings and health education for athletes in a supportive and welcoming environment.
The Healthy Athletes programme helps identify unmet health needs and promotes healthy lifestyles among athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The screenings are delivered across seven disciplines: Fit Feet (podiatry), FUNfitness (physiotherapy), Opening Eyes (vision), Special Smiles (oral health), Healthy Hearing (audiology), Health Promotion (lifestyle and prevention), and Strong Minds (emotional wellbeing).
To deliver these screenings during the Games, volunteer healthcare professionals and students are essential. This includes physiotherapists, podiatrists, dentists, dental hygienists, audiologists, optometrists, nutritionists, nurses, psychologists, psychotherapists and doctors.
These volunteers will play a vital role in providing high-quality screenings, health advice and referrals where needed, ensuring athletes have access to healthcare support as part of the Healthy Athletes team.
By volunteering, health professionals not only contribute to the wellbeing of athletes but also gain valuable experience working within an inclusive and collaborative health programme.
