Ophthalmologists & eye-care professionals needed for Ireland Games screening

The Special Olympics / Lions Club International Opening Eyes® program is a vision and eye health screening in partnership with the Lions Club International Foundation.

Led by volunteer vision care professionals, Opening Eyes is able to offer prescription glasses to Special Olympics Ireland athletes who attend Ireland Games.

We are looking for qualified or trainee ophthalmologists or vision care professionals to undertake this hugely beneficial screening for the athletes competing at Ireland Games in June.

As an Opening Eyes volunteer – you will be part of a team offering athletes eye exams and

new prescription lenses with follow up care recommendations. You will also benefit from working with experienced colleagues and learn how best to engage with this special section of our community.

 Healthy Athlete: Opening Eyes

Location: National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15

Dates: Opening Eyes will be running 15th – 17th June 2018

Volunteers will get the opportunity to:

  • Gain valuable experience of communicating with and screening people with an intellectual disability
  • Learn from qualified/experienced healthcare professionals and share knowledge and skills.
  • Make a positive impact on our athlete’s lives.

This is a hugely exciting event and you will be at the heart of the Healthy Athlete screening programme. Training will be provided prior to the Games and we will also carry out a venue walk through to familiarise you with the layout. Lunch, uniform and accreditation will all be provided
