Join our volunteer team for the Games weekend, 18–21 June 2026! You can volunteer for all four days or choose the days that suit your schedule. Volunteers will be organised in teams supported by a member of the Venue Management Team.
• Commitment Length: Short-term: Volunteer during the 18-21 June 2026

• Training & Engagement: One-time orientation or day of briefing. On-demand training via the Volunteer portal

Join our volunteer team for the Games weekend, 18–21 June 2026!

Ideal for individuals who want to help, cheer on, and be part of the action during the Games time. Roles vary across all Functional Areas.

Be at the heart of the action and make a real difference! Support our delegations at the accommodation venues by welcoming our athletes, assisting with delegation queries with a smile from check-ins and bus transfers and to evening dinner.  Bring on the fun after hours as you assist with evening activities! No hotel or hospitality experience needed, just your great attitude. 

Are you the voice that gets the crowd buzzing? 

We’re looking for a confident, energetic individual who’s comfortable on the mic and ready to bring events to life! The announcer is responsible for making announcements throughout the event. Announcements may be related to

- Welcome

- Competition Staging

- Public Safety or Public Announcements

- Award & Closing Ceremonies

If you can hype up a room, keep things flowing, and love being in the spotlight— this role is for you.

Bring Your Skills to the Water

The field of play assistants for kayaking must be proficient paddlers or paddle boarders and be familiar with supporting a sprint kayak race. They must also provide their own equipment including boats, boards, paddles and safety attire.

Be the Guardian of Fair Play – Step Into the Role!

The Field of Play Official is responsible for officiating each sport event, enforcing the rules of the sport in line with National Governing Bodies Rules or the sports specific rules of Special Olympics where they take precedence.  They will ensure a fair competition is delivered and that all athletes adhere to the rules to ensure a meaningful competition experience. They will always remain impartial, if they have any queries or concerns, they will report to the Head Official who will provide an answer or consult with the Competition manager and the Sports Department of SO Ireland if necessary. 

Data in Action – Powering Performance!

The GMS assistant role involves data entry and processing of scores in a sport. This Includes manually entering scores taken from the field of play and inputting to the Games Management System. They will work with a GMS coordinator to ensure accurate data is entered and results and schedules produced in conjunction with the Competition Manager.

Your Support, Their Swing!

A caddie is defined as “one who assists the player in accordance with the Rules, which may include carrying or handling the player’s clubs during play.”

Support the Media and Shine a Spotlight on the Games!

Join our media team to gather stories, competition scores and reporting, interview families & volunteers, take photos, and share updates on social media. If you're organised, personable, and interested in media or communications, this is a great chance to get involved.

Suitable volunteers: Must be comfortable with video and photography on mobile, chatty / communicative, well organised, open to a busy schedule.  (Training provided).

Drive the Games!

Love being on the move. Join the Motorpool team and keep the Games rolling! As a Motorpool Volunteer, you will be behind the wheel of official Games vehicles, shuttling delegation members, guests or staff between competition venues, accommodations, and other approved locations. 

Be the Backbone of the Games – Join the Operations Team!

Step into a dynamic volunteer role where flexibility and variety are key. As part of the Operations Team, you’ll be cross trained to support key areas that keep the Games running smoothly:

- Sound Production – Keep teams connected by managing radios and venue comms. Supported by your coordinator you will help manage music and awards ceremony support. No experience? No problem—we’ll train you!

- Lunch Services – Keep athletes, coaches, and volunteers fuelled. Distribute food and drinks to athletes, coaches, and volunteers. As part of this team, you'll focus on serving up smiles—no cooking required!

- Logistics – Get hands-on with equipment, signage, and supplies. Perfect for those who love organizing and problem-solving. You’ll help move and manage everything that makes the Games tick - Manual handling will be involved in this role.

Be the Go-To Source for Information!

Join our Information Services team and play a crucial role in creating a warm, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone attending our inclusive sports event. As an Information Services Assistant, you will be stationed at information desks across all venues, where your friendly attitude and willingness to help will ensure that families, spectators, and media representatives—such as journalists and photographers—receive the guidance and support they need. You’ll be the welcoming face that guests see first, answering questions, providing directions, and helping everyone feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit.

If you are approachable, patient, and passionate about helping others, this role is the perfect opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact while being at the heart of all the action!

Bring the excitement of the games to life by photographing unforgettable moments. Help us tell the story of athletes, volunteers, and the vibrant spirit of the Games through your lens.

Welcome and Assist Our Spectators!

Be the friendly face that helps spectators enjoy the Games. You’ll provide directional information, manage crowd flow and accreditation checks, and support venue operations. You will also assist with the traffic management plan to ensure everyone is transported safely each day. If you’re outgoing, helpful, and enjoy being part of a lively atmosphere, this is a wonderful opportunity.

On your feet, in the action—keeping the Games moving!

Working as part of the Sports Team you may be involved in any of the following areas during the Games; parts of this role are very active role, and you will be asked to be on your feet all day.:

- Sports Info Desk - Serves as the check in point for Head Coaches, and as a link to the Competition Team for Head Coaches throughout the event.

- Field Of Play & Equipment- you’ll make sure the competition area is ready! You’ll help set-up the area and equipment and ensure the right athletes are on the field monitoring access to the area.

- Runner - You will bring paperwork (results) from the GMS station to the awards station and work between the two areas.

- Staging - Volunteers will ensure that there is a smooth flow of athletes to and from the staging area which will help ensure that the competition runs to the agreed schedule

Fit Feet helps Special Olympics athletes step lively on the playing field, and in everyday life. Many athletes suffer from foot and ankle pain, or deformities that impair their performance.

To be eligible for this role you must be a student  You will be part of the Fit Feet team that will screen athlete’s feet, ankles and lower leg and will offer advice regarding proper shoes and socks. 

FUNfitness provides athletes the opportunity to be screened for flexibility of hamstring, calf, shoulder rotator and hip flexor muscles; functional strength of the abdominal and lower extremity muscles; balance and fitness.

In addition to health education activities, Health Promotion offers screenings for bone density, blood pressure, and body mass index (BMI). Its goals include encouraging and enhancing healthy behaviours You will be part of the Health Promotion team that will offer athletes information on healthy eating, hydration, smoking, physical activity. There will also be an area which will take heights & weight and calculate BMI, take blood pressure for athletes.

In addition to health education activities, Health Promotion offers screenings for bone density, blood pressure, and body mass index (BMI). Its goals include encouraging and enhancing healthy behaviours. Suitable volunteers: Nutritionist / Dietician

The main goals of this program are to inform athletes, parents, coaches or caregivers about the detection of possible ear and hearing problems, recommend follow-up as needed, and to promote the necessity of regular ear and hearing screenings. You will be part of the Healthy Hearing team that will offer athletes hearing screening and will offer advice specific to the screening results

Opening Eyes screening consists of 12 testing stations, after going through the screening stations, the exam information is reviewed, and a decision is made if the athlete needs a new pair of prescription glasses or sport goggles.  Suitable volunteers: To be eligible for this role you must be either a qualified Optometrist, Optician or Dispensing Optician

You will be part of the Special Smiles team that will offer athletes a dentalscreening with basic dental care and education.

Strong Minds is an interactive learning activity focused on helping our athletes to develop and learn adaptive coping skills. You will be part of the Strong Minds team that will provide athletes with positive strategies to deal with stress & anxiety.

Healthy Athlete provides free health screening and education for athletes in the disciplines of optometry, dentistry, podiatry, nutrition etc. This role is for health professionals not included in the other seven Healthy Athlete disciplines e.g. Nurses or doctors
